Deities

The series grew out of a fascination with classical drawing, old-world Europe, and elements from my past work. After a workshop in 19th-century techniques, I started wondering about the methods modernists abandoned when they traded cast drawing and value studies for gesture and idea-driven work. Traveling through Rome, London, and Poland, I collected images of striking 15th and 16th-century statues, which collided with my special interests and became drawings. Part old-world art, part dream, I am working on a new one based on Mars/Aries, the god of war.
